I was interested in this product after reading and learning about how to fix my broken window motor on my car. The suggestion was that after the repair was done the plastic film that was a moisture barrier that goes on the door frame before re-installing the door panel was held on by "Butyl-tape" -Ive never heard of that, what is it? While I was well aware of the black sticky stuff that youd often find while working on cars I never knew what it was or what it was called or where to but it and since my car is in great condition and I like to do things by the book I went in search of this stuff...GOOD LUCK !!....Most auto stores and home improvement stores didn't have a clue about what I was talking about and after many phone calls I gave upon that and got on the ol net to search a viola!! here it was......Now some will say you can just tape on the plastic ( not a good idea it will fail in time) some say to just leave it off ! -OK if you like rust -others say use caulking or another glue NOPE!....this stuff was designed to come off and on specifically. While if your very careful you can remove the plastic barrier and somewhat save the old butyl-tape it makes it easier to have a fresh roll. You can also use it for other applications as well (seal leaks etc) ...Now, you DO get a lot in the roll that you may not need all at once,i used mine about two years ago and now I have another window motor out and I don't have to go searching around for the tape ive got it tucked away in my tool box ready to go.Used this on my 2008 Honda Fit. The moisture barrier was leaking and I needed to repair it and prevent my back floor boards from getting water (Honda has a weird design... the plastic moisture barrier actually does more than keep out "vapor"). This product seals wonderfully. It is absurdly sticky and I have faith my repair will last. Honestly, this product seems a lot better than the material I pulled out of my Honda door; however, the Honda material was 8 years aged.I was able to do 2 doors completely with the product and could easily do 1 more. I don't believe I could make this 15 foot roll work for the entire car but it does a great job with 2 doors leaving plenty of room for mistakes and extra afterwards. I also noticed that the 1/4" size fits very well in the Honda Fit's door. Keep in mind this product comes as a 1/4" rope, it starts out cylindrical. The small recessed track that Honda uses for their butyl fit this material perfectly after I smashed it down making it stick out less. I hope this review helps someone. This arrived as just the sealer on paper. Other reviewers have mentioned this too and it does not affect the functionality of it, but it seems wrong to show a picture of a 3M box and then ship bare sealer. Is it really 3M? I have no way of knowing.Used this product to install new vapor barriers on a 2007 BMW 328i. Appeared to be the same material used from the factory, but was much more sticky than the 10+ year old original. This product is a round ribbon, while the factory product appeared to have started out flat. It may be easier to apply a flat roll, but the round worked fine.15' provided enough product for both front doors with a little left over. Would not be enough for more than two doors. For anyone attempting a similar project, it is paramount to remove all the all product and clean the door surface with alcohol so the new product adheres well. The best way to remove the old product is with the product itself - go over it with a ball of it. It sticks to itself more than any other surface.I bought this product to quiet down the interior rattles in my car doors. This product works WONDERS. I took off each individual door panel, and applied this putty around each individual clip to make a tighter seal as well as provide some cushion, and also put this putty between the inner door cartridge and the metal door itself. No more rattles, couldn't be more pleased, stuffs great!Used this to install two rear windows in my Ford Econoline van. Perfect width to fit the existing channel in the window frame, and the 15 feet in kit was enough to do the two rear windows with just a little bit left over. I've installed several sets of windows over the years using this 3M product, and all are still well-sealed even after nearly a decade. Definitely worth the cost for this premium product. Not having to worry about your windows leaking is worth every penny! This product works like a charm for sealing a windshield or cracks in a heater/ac box. fills and sticks very well. Does not move once placed into position. I would recommend for any permanent sealing job.Works okay for vapor seal on BMW e46. The first time I did it, part of the vapor seal came undone. The secret is to wipe off with alcohol, use clean hands. Also really push the vapor seal onto the butyl using a screwdriver handle to deform the butyl underneath. Re-doing the job is demoralizing. Also, the butyl stretches, so you can pull it to whatever length you want. A small amount also works great on the end of a wrench or screwdriver to hold bolds and screws in place until you can get them started.Got it fast and worked great
